email error and spam folder

I seem to be getting some email errors like the one in the body of this question. Also, I have found that many of the emails sent from the system go directly to the spam or junk folder. can you offer any help with that problem?

I don't see any email error in the question like you mentioned. Maybe you forgot to include it? You can send emails from your own email server if you want. It may improve delivery rates, but with all the spam on the internet, it's always a battle to get email through no matter what method you use.
If you want to setup your own server, go to Settings->General Settings->Use Custom Server. You'll have to check with your email provider or IT guy for the information you need to fill in.
